Computers / Information Technology
In technology education programs, students should be provided with the challenge of designing and producing products that satisfy the needs of both the user and the wider community.
The term “information” refers to data, which is processed and presented in a variety of ways that makes it useful and provides people with knowledge. Students begin Information Technology during the Early Years Programme and continue until Year 10.
It is the aim of the school to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and web-authoring software. Students at the Multinational School have access to a range of equipment and learn techniques and procedures to process and communicate information to meet particular needs.
Information Technology is taught across the curriculum and is carefully integrated into all subject areas. For example a Year One child is learning spelling, hand-eye coordination and history in a direct and practical learning environment. Similarly, a Year Six student might create their own Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on volcanoes and earthquakes to learn about the forces of plate tectonics that shape our earth. In addition, a Year Ten student will use dynamic geometry software to manipulate a parabola to enhance their learning of the mathematics of transformation. Students are often required to use a combination of different media depending on the nature and purpose of the task assigned to each student.
For those students who have chosen to do Design Technology instead of Physical Education, get to spend two periods in the computer Labs. During these periods, the students will become familiar with different programs and learn how to edit pictures / photographs.
The Multinational School has three computer labs allowing the students to utilise networked Pentium III and IV computers as well as additional computers for classroom use.
